About Us

From Larkstone Supported Living’s head office in Barnstaple,Devon, and our bases in Ilfracombe and Bideford, we provide specialist supported living, outreach, respite and short break services for adults with disabilities and complex needs that may be challenging.

Larkstone was founded and registered with the Care Quality Commission in 2006 by Ann Balchin and Jack Balchin, both of whom have many years of private and public sector experience in delivering care and support services for people with complex needs.

Our experience and understanding of this care specialism underpins our approach of developing and maximising abilities, offering opportunity, encouraging positive engagement and encouraging people to take control of their individuality. Key features of the way we operate include:

  • putting in place person-centred care plans, tailored to the needs of the individual, and evolving with them as these change
  • supporting the health and well-being of each service user and ensuring their own safety and security and that of their home
  • enhancing the involvement of each individual in their community
  • enabling each service user to increase their life skills, supporting the transition to reduced levels of support and a move to more independent living in the future
  • working in partnership with our service users, their families, commissioners, care managers, health professionals, the Department of Work and Pensions and others.
